Conclusion

Social media does normalise mental illness, while this can be seen as good it can also lead to self diagnosis or finding validation in your illness. Seeing posts online about things such as anxiety can lead you to believe you have it. Seeing posts showing symptoms of anxiety that you might relate to can make you believe that you have the illness but in actuality you might just suffer from the most basic kind of anxiety that most people face at some stage in their life. Seeing these symptoms and seeing more and more people identifying with them can lead to people viewing the illness as something normal therefore leading people who suffer from it to believe that their illness isn’t a real struggle and shouldn’t be handled. Doing this can make the illness worse and then lead to even more harm.
